The wait is over, as the week of the semifinals has finally arrived. In the banking group, we’ve two semifinal matches. One of them is between Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial. 

Both the teams played valiantly in the quarterfinals to get through all odds and reach this stage of the tournament. The match is going to be tough. 

Team MUFJ Financial started off with the right foot, as they scored the first point on day 1 of the semifinal. Let’s go into some details of this team. 

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. is a Japanese bank holding and financial services company headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. MUFG holds assets of around US$3.1 trillion as of 2016 and is one of the "Three Great Houses" of the Mitsubishi Group alongside Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.  

In recent news, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group announced that it has completed the sale of MUFG Union Bank's core regional banking franchise to the U.S. Bancorp, following approvals from banking regulators in the U.S. and Japan. This has enabled MUFG to increase its focus and direct its resources on accelerating growth in its America's wholesale businesses. 

After the close of the sale, team MUFG remains one of the largest foreign banking organizations in the U.S. All this has been really beneficial for the team last week and will be this week as well.

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc vs. Barclays

The second semifinal match is between the banking teams of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc and Barclays. 

Team SMFG scored the first round, and the fans are ecstatic! Its performance in the last week has been quite commendable - and many are betting on this team to reach the final! 

Team SMFG is a Japanese multinational banking and financial services institution headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The group operates in retail, corporate, and investment banking segments worldwide. It provides financial products and services to a wide range of clients, including individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises, large corporations, financial institutions and public sector entities. 

This Japan's second-biggest bank by assets, revised its full-year net profit estimate upward as the dollar's strength against the Japanese yen boosted its earnings in the fiscal first half of the year ending in March 2023. Why is it beneficial?

Sumitomo Mitsui now expects a net profit of ￥770 billion for the 12 months through March, up from the earlier projected ￥730 billion. This comes after it reported on Nov. 14 a 15.2% year-over-year increase in net profit to ￥525.4 billion for the April-to-September period. This has increased the focus on the team and has made it quite attractive for everyone betting.
